Character Design: Zankath (original version)

This is how I originally envisioned the Zankath. But as you can see, there are many revisions when you look at the comic version (kneecap is apart of the lower leg instead of separate, feet were redesigned, insectoid 'abdomen' was added to the rear-end, as well as the pattern of the lower abdomen). Before I designed this species, most of the creatures I drew were reptilian (except for the C'thu and Chii-Do-Gek, which are... mollusks), so I figured by adding an insect race, I could at least broaden my horizons a bit.

Character Design: Kwo-Toru

I first came up with this race upon pure whim. I recall thinking of the Duros (of Star Wars fame) while I was drawing this out. Heck, the Kwo-Turo are even reptilian, like the Duros. Then again, the design is also revolved around the iconic "Grey Alien", as well. I wanted one race to somehow have one race to "springboard" the human race into reaching their highest potential.

Character Design: Tanarak (Basic Class)

Ah yes, the Tanarak. My first thought when I was creating an enemy race was, "Has anyone ever though of an alien species that thrived off of their own pollution?" Well, if anyone has, I'm sure it's cool; but I designed these guys from a few basic concepts: They must look quasi-reptilian (the Soldier Class, which has yet to be scanned, look moreso) but kind of have the look like they thrive off of pollution (i.e. they look skeletal), and they must be sadistic, immoral as well as amoral, and very war-like, yet be technologically advanced (tough armor, and a wide variety of gadgets and weapons).

Not only that, but the Tanarak are the founders of the Supremists, who, unlike the Galactic Federation who work through peace and diplomacy, intend to control the galaxy through force and iron-fisted rule.

Skry-Shuu'hl Design

Though it is unintelligent, this beast I thought up when I made the C'thu. I wanted something very exotic (it's genetically both reptilian and insectoid, it even has bones AND an exoskeleton) and to be the top predator on a planet with such violent weather like the C'thu's planet, L'hu.  It's tactics to get food are simple: Ambush, fly up into the air, and drop it to make the catch easier.

Skry-Shuu'hl on L'hu

Yes, this one was a tad cheap. I took a preexisting background, and used the torn paper filter via-Photoshop to make it more "animated", and took the above picture and put it in their, with some adjustments. I do intend to make a far-better picture to experiment with sceneries of different types.

Character Design: Nepedite

Another one of the bad guys, these guys are loosely based on Elephant Seals, professional wrestlers (mostly thinking of Captain Lou Albano, mostly), and, I might regret saying this, my uncle back when he was overweight (if my uncle IS reading this, I'm not insulting you in any way, I only use ideas if they seem good, especially since many character designs even today are based of real people, be it celebrities or people that the creator knows). They are brutish and big (much like the actual animal, trust me, Elephant Seals are not cute, nor cuddly), and they like to stand out (loud shouting, proclamations, and throwing stuff, among other things). They are also part of the Supremists, and with their mindset of "Survival of the Fittest" fits perfectly well.

Character Design: Chii-Do-Gek

Ok, ok. For those who have guessed or surmised,  this IS roughly based off of the Squibbon from the show, "The Future is Wild". But, I tried to make own adaptations, like society, and customs. I really should work on these guys more (especially since I had these to show a point about gaining friends, no mater how weird they are).

Character Design: Tabby

In my series, I wanted a "catgirl" (I have a soft spot for them, especially Merle from Escaflowne, and Aisha ClanClan from Outlaw Star), but I didn't want her to be "catty" (snitty, bad attitude, whatever you want to label it as), I wanted her to be... warm actually; warm, smart, optimistic (but not blindly so), and fun to be around (my "dreamgirl" if you will). But there's more to her than looks, let me assure you. With the backstory she has, she might end up being pretty deep, sometimes.

Character Design: Stu

Originally, I was going to make him in his late 20's, when Blue Eden was still just an early idea back in 2002 (the ideas were drawn out in 2004), but I figured to make him older. And, so far, every person I show him to likes him, off the bat. He's an eccentric, and seasoned character, something that, somehow, people can relate to... or maybe it's the stain on his undershirt and the way he's about to go for his spray bottle like a six-shooter. All-in-all, for a character whose supposed to have a shadowy past, he seems to look like he has stories to tell just by looking into his eyes.

Character Design: "Snoot"

Back when Blue Eden was supposed to be a Flash, I wanted to do something revolutionary, make a character that "speaks" through sign language.  I still want to emphasize that for the webcomic, instead of doing something cheap, like a "speak & spell", or a notepad. Also, I actually might have a way to do just that, but I may need to experiment with Imageready (I've been one to experiment, media-wise, and sometimes I can impress myself and other around me with what I come up with).

Character Design: Shigeru Kido

When I first thought Blue Eden out in 2002, Shigeru was actually supposed to be a spastic American guy (Also, Blue Eden was originally supposed to be a colony of people of earth going to this planet, rather than an intergalactic race. So 2002's Blue Eden and 2004's Blue Eden are actually quite different), but I decided to not go for it because it seemed like a 2-dimensional kind of character.

I, instead, wanted to go in the "super hyper geek, bloated with media influences", and making him Japanese (liking anime, videogames, music, wearing clothing that seems even beyond it's time, even in the most minor sense, and, the hitch, having a thing for catgirls) seemed natural to me. He was this close to being named "Hirokazu", but I liked Shigeru more.

Character Design: Gwen Rosewood

Much like Shigeru and Stu, Gwen was much different, originally. Originally, She was Chinese and a tomboy. She still a bit of a tomboy now, but more depth was added to her character, and I wanted to do something revolutionary and unique in her ethnicity: Make her ethnically-mixed, and I do not mean like how they do it on TV nowadays (having two parents that are different ethnicities), but more like a "what if" answer to what would happen if interracial marriages occurred now (not in mass, but starting off small. I've got to be logical about it), and it went on for 500 years, or more. So, she's not White, Black, Asian, Middle Eastern, or Hispanic, but she's more like "All of the above, plus a few others not mentioned by me".

Also, besides the tomboy thing, I made her environmentally aware... and British (where you're born doesn't equate to the ethnicity, just the nationality).

Character Design: Captain David Matthers

He was originally conceited, and wore red. Other than that, he's more or less the same to his 2004 version. Well, he's in the army, and slightly strict/stiff (part of his upbringing). He's also aware of that part of his personality, and tends to make up for it, in some way or another. But like any good character in a show or comic, a little character evolution might make him a better person/character.

Blue Eden DVD Cover

When I was working on my Senior Project back in 2004/2005, Apart from the Flash animation, I made this DVD cover to go with it. Though I'm not working on the Flash now (and it may be a while until I do), I keep looking at it to remind myself of why I do what I'm doing now (drawing, and making the webcomic), and also of a future I want to make for myself (like how any anime today and in the past were once Graphic Novels/Manga).

Character Design: C'thu

My first ever species drawn, the C'thu live on the planet of L'hu, which has violent storms worldwide. This, in turn, makes this planet lush, and "waterlogged", a perfect home for an amphibious race of Cephalopods (for those who don't know, Cephalopods are Octopi, Squid and Cuttlefish). The Tanaraks found this backwater planet, and pitied them for the fact that they were a race in dire straights (the environment was too harsh, and the wildlife predating on them at an alarming rate), and supplied them with Tanarak technology. Apart from the newly acquired weapons, the C'thu are telepathic (speaking with the mind), and have phenomenal strength (having only muscle and no true bones contributes to this) and revere a powerful god-like being. They are with the Supremists, willingly (unlike other times when the Tanarak force other beings to ally with them).

Character Design: Bazadarr

The Warlord of the Tanarak, he looks noticeably different from the Basic Class because he pumps himself with artificial steroids and hormones, giving him a quasi-reptilian look, as well as pertaining some humanoid in him. I gave him different armor as well, to make him stand out more (shoulder plates designed to look like skulls, and arm/knee blades for melee combat, so he isn't completely trigger-happy). Also, because of how his jaw is shaped and because he's reptilian his mouth is fixed to a natural toothy smile (but he is able to emote, so he won't be smiling when he's mad). He's also arrogant, and pitiless. An overall jerk. But, when you don't have worry about your troops dying (or yourself for that matter) because of advanced cloning technology, you'd be extremely cocky and fearless, too.
